Community Connections

KSBJ’s Promotions and Outreach department strives to connect our community to the heart of God by raising awareness of initiatives that impact lives locally & globally. Relationships with various churches, ministries, non-profits, & businesses are an essential part of the ministry of KSBJ. Our Community Outreach team is passionate about coming alongside organizations who are dedicating their time & resources for the glory of God.

Ministry Spotlight: God’s Pit Crew

In May of 1999, Randy and Terri Johnson answered the calling upon their lives by responding to the devastation caused by the largest tornado in recorded history in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After using borrowed trucks and trailers to deliver three loads of supplies, they returned home from Oklahoma with a sense of great accomplishment. Little did they know that this was only the beginning of something much greater than they could have imagined. Soon the non-profit crisis response organization known as God’s Pit Crew was born.

God’s Pit Crew has delivered and helped distribute tens of millions of pounds of relief supplies (water, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, food, diapers, etc.) in disaster areas. Our volunteers have cut thousands of trees off people’s homes, gutted houses, patched roofs, and prayed with people during their time of need. We have been able to build, renovate or provide 40 homes, six churches, three Christian radio stations and two elementary schools.

Here’s a snapshot of all that makes up God’s Pit Crew:

  • Comprised of over 300 volunteers who collectively exceed 45,000 hours of service every year
  • Responded to 97 major disasters in 25 states and 9 countries
  • Distributes thousands of Blessing Buckets to people in need every year, including over 16,000 to disaster victims in 2017
  • Serve over 175 other regional non-profit organizations who distribute food, drinks and other life essential items to people who are in need in their community
  • Serves schools, police, fire and rescue departments
  • Distributed more than 200 millions of pounds of relief supplies to individuals and agencies since 1999

God’s Pit Crew’s mission statement is simple: “With God’s help and direction to bring hope, healing and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

Community Relationships

KSBJ is proud to work closely with the YMCA, one of Houston’s leading non-profit organizations committed to applying Christian principles into programs that build healthy spirit, mind, & body for all. Supporting their belief that a strong community can be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors, the Y is a cause-driven organization focusing on youth development, healthy living & social responsibility.
