Community Connections

KSBJ’s Promotions and Outreach department strives to connect our community to the heart of God by raising awareness of initiatives that impact lives locally & globally. Relationships with various churches, ministries, non-profits, & businesses are an essential part of the ministry of KSBJ. Our Community Outreach team is passionate about coming alongside organizations who are dedicating their time & resources for the glory of God.

Ministry Spotlight: Generation One

Generation One is a non-profit organization which creates an environment of multi-generational opportunities in the Third Ward by conducting programs and activities designed to train, encourage, and support individuals and families to break the cycle of generational poverty. Participating Third Ward children and families experience faith in action as they build relationships, establish trust and practice/own the skills they acquire in one or more of the Gen One programs:

Generation One Academy: A tuition-free, year-round, pre-school and early intervention program (pre-K2 through Kindergarten) for children in the Third Ward, which trains, educates, guides and supports students’ growth spiritually, physically, academically, socially, and emotionally for greater success in school, at home and in the community. We partner with two local charter schools (Young Scholars Academy and Nehemiah Center) to provide first- through eighth-grade education.

After-school and Summer Programs: High quality programming for students at Generation One Academy, Young Scholars Academy, and the Nehemiah Center ensures their year-round involvement and learning in tutoring, camp, Bible school, classroom, field trips and other settings. This program, coupled with the Academy, provides children from age 2 through pre-teen, with a consistent foundation for success in the critical years of education.

Parent/Family Training and Parental Involvement: Training classes, events, and projects are designed to equip parents/guardians with the skills needed to help their children successfully progress through grade levels in school, to develop personal relationships with God, and to develop the leadership, commitment to, and ownership of Third Ward improvement and transformation.

Third Ward Physical Revitalization: An extensive, volunteer-based program is conducted that provides repair and cleanup of homes, lots and community sites in the Third Ward. The neighborhood projects are opportunities for people to serve others while they are enriched spiritually and grow in their own personal faith.

Community Relationships

KSBJ is proud to work closely with the YMCA, one of Houston’s leading non-profit organizations committed to applying Christian principles into programs that build healthy spirit, mind, & body for all. Supporting their belief that a strong community can be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors, the Y is a cause-driven organization focusing on youth development, healthy living & social responsibility.
