Ministry Spotlight: Houston Children’s Charity (HCC)
For the past 20 years, Houston Children’s Charity (HCC) has cared for the Greater Houston Area and its more than six million people. Our fundamental mission is to improve the quality of life for underprivileged, abused, and disabled children who have otherwise been left behind. Through an array of operating and capital support, HCC has raised over $35 million toward program services for more than 300 agencies and hundreds of thousands of individual families in Houston.
Houston Children’s Charity has three thriving programs during the Holiday Season. Through our Adopt-A-Family, Annual Christmas Party, and Toy Distribution, we help thousands of needy families in and around the Greater Houston area.
The Adopt-A-Family program has grown tremendously due to the support of the Houston community. During our Annual Children’s Christmas Party, at the Hyatt Regency Houston, over 650 children and their families are treated to food, toys, goodies, entertainment and of course the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Since 2009, HCC has teamed with the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots program to provide toys for underserved children. Since 2010, a conglomerate with Houston First Corporation has granted 125,000 square feet of space in the George R. Brown Convention Center to host our toy distribution. As a result of both partnerships, and the support of the Houston community, HCC has been able to help tens of thousands of children during the Holiday Season.
HCC benefits from a hands-on board of directors, who provide more than 40% of the total funding each year. Combining careful decision-making with rapid response, allows HCC to efficiently and effectively meet children’s needs. Our success can only be measured by the number of children’s lives touched. We are proudly making progress, assisting one child at a time.
In response to the need to better support teens in our annual toy distribution we hope you pick up a gift for the Teen Toy Collection and bring it to the MercyMe It’s Christmas show at Grace Community Church or drop it off at the KSBJ studio December 13th and 14th. We hope you will also tag it with a special love note or scripture to encourage them. Click Here for a list of suggested donation items.
KSBJ is proud to work closely with the YMCA, one of Houston’s leading non-profit organizations committed to applying Christian principles into programs that build healthy spirit, mind, & body for all. Supporting their belief that a strong community can be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors, the Y is a cause-driven organization focusing on youth development, healthy living & social responsibility.
