Putting Our Faith in Action
The Annual Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run

The Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run is a unique national fundraising effort organized nationally and locally by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. It allows community members from all walks of life across the country to participate in a simultaneous, nationwide event to raise national awareness of the challenges faced by the nation’s poor and to raise significant funds for use in direct service to the poor.  All funds raised locally will be used locally.

The Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Registration begins at 7:30am and the run begins at 9am.

Last year the Houston event raised $25,000 for direct aid.  This year, with your help, we can do more.  We would like your group’s team to join us as Walkers/Runners.

The Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run is a fun-filled way that your group can come together in support of the poor.

What are the benefits to your group?
• Walk in Solidarity – we see Christ in the faces of those we serve.  We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves.  Our neighbors include those struggling in poverty in our community.
• Raise awareness – this is a great opportunity to raise awareness for those living in poverty in our community.
• Provide assistance – everyone deserves to live a dignified life. Supporting the Friends of the Poor® Walk will give direct aid to those we serve.

How can your group started?
Create your group team by singing up at www.fopwalk.org.  Encourage each team member to ask friends and family to sponsor them as a walker.  Instructions for sponsoring a walker are found at www.fopwalk.org

If you have questions about getting your group involved, please contact Laura Schlameus at
832-538-0325.
