Come relax on several Saturday nights this summer to listen to great music in Westbury UMC’s Memorial Gardens (the courtyard near the Chapel). Grab your lawn chair or blanket and a picnic dinner, if you like.

Saturday, July 6, at 6 p.m.
The Waazobia Band, led by Terry Emdin, will perform original songs and covers. Waazobia has a unique world experience and is a crowd favorite. The band is a Houston-based true Rasta Reggae Band, founded in 1986. The band consist of members from the African continent and USA. The word “WAAZOBIA”
is a compound word (WAA - means “come” in Yoruba; ZO - means “come” in Hausa; BIA - means “come” in Igbo) representing “The coming together of all to revive in one Love.”

Saturday, July 20, at 6 p.m.
Houston’s own steel drum percussionist, Mark Mireles, will present a Carribbean-inspired concert featuring steel drums and acoustic guitars. Mark currently is the Steel Pannist for Texas beach music band, Jerry Diaz and Hannas Reef, which tours mostly on the US Gulf Coast. He is stepping out into a solo artist career in addition to playing with Hannas Reef. Mark has recorded percussion and guitar parts with numerous artists over the past 12 years. In 1994, Mark learned how to play the Steel Drums (or Pan as it is known in the Islands) and immediately garnered a position teaching the Pan in several high schools and colleges in the Houston area.

Saturday, August 3, at 6 p.m.
The Westbury UMC Worship Band will close the series with an outdoor concert filled with Westbury favorites from worship. The set will also include music by Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews, The Beatles and others.

Westbury UMC is located at 5200 Willowbend, on the corner of Willowbend and W. Bellfort in southwest Houston. For more information, contact Rev. DeAndre Johnson at deandre1@westburyumc.org or 713-723-0175.
