The Best Christmas Light Displays In Houston..

I found this in the Houston Chronicle. The Best Christmas Light Displays In Houston…

River Oaks - This upscale neighborhood is stately and showy as is, but during the month of December, homeowners — and decorators — really outdo themselves. Grand old oak trees are beautifully wrapped in white lights; from their limbs, more lights cascade, and huge, glowing orbs dangle. The most breathtaking view is at the corner of Inwood Drive and River Oaks Boulevard, but there’s plenty to see on surrounding streets, including Chevy Chase Drive, Del Monte Drive and Bellmeade Street. Brightly lit palm trees line West Gray east of South Shepherd.

Scott Terrace - This neighborhood of older, one-story homes doesn’t have the most spectacular lights, but the decorations are uniform and charming. About 1 mile north of the South Loop and east of Texas 288, the streets come alive with lighted arches, Nativity scenes and white-light-trimmed lawns. Don’t miss Daphne and Florinda streets.

Shepherd Park and Candlelight Park - These adjoining neighborhoods have festive street arches and residents who go all out. The well-maintained houses, north of West 43rd on either side of Ella Boulevard, are big on personalized cutouts. Decorations include window dioramas, a larger-than-life inflatable Santa and college mascots. Thornton and Martin roads are good starting points.

Woodland

Heights -

The one-night bash called Lights in the Heights may be over, but the wattage is still fired up in this neighborhood just east of the Heights. Homeowners here get creative to compete for awards. One of our favorites: a home decorated to resemble a lifesize gingerbread house. Between Studemont and Beauchamp, check out Highland Street and Bayland Avenue.

Prestonwood Forest - This gussied-up subdivision in northwest Houston is the current Ultimate Houston Reader Pick for Holiday Lights Display. Colored lights, inflatable animals and Charlie Brown and the gang all make merry in this decked-out neighborhood. It’s just north of Willowbrook Mall and northeast of Tomball Parkway; enter from Prestonwood Forest Drive.

Highland Village, Post Oak Boulevard and GreenwayPlaza:

There’s nothing homey about these commercial areas, but the abundance of white lights can still bring on the Christmas spirit. They’re most brilliant on Richmond between Edloe and Buffalo Speedway; on Westheimer between Weslayan and

Loop 610; and on Post Oak between Westheimer and San Felipe.
