Refund?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

The IRS is looking for nearly 40,000 Texans — about 7,000 in Harris County — to give them their long-awaited stimulus checks or income tax refunds. The IRS said it has more than 30,700 rebate checks worth more than $19 million and an additional 9,000 refund checks totaling more than $8 million. The checks were returned by the U.S. Postal Service because of mailing address errors. To update an address or check the status of a check, use the “Where’s My Refund?” tool, which leads to the “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?” tool on www.irs.gov  for instructions. Also, you can call 866-234-2942. (From The Houston Chronicle)

Taken from Woman’s World magazine.
• Love those pumpkins. One slice of pumpkin pie holds THREE TIMES your recommended daily allowance of Vitamin A. That’s great news for your skin – since Vitamin A’s critical for promoting the collagen which keeps your skin supple and flexible. Pumpkins are also loaded with healthful Vitamin E, and enzymes responsible for keeping skin firm and flake-free.
• Sweet Potatoes. In one study, researchers found more total nutrients in sweet potatoes than any other vegetable! People who ate a sweet potato every day for three weeks had 33% more T-cells in their blood – those are what your body relies on to fight viruses and keep your immune system strong.

Hurricane Ike caused about $8.5 billion in damage to Harris County houses, apartments and mobile homes. Ike will be far costlier than any other Houston-area storm in recent memory.

Another 600,000 cribs have spring-pegs that can become worn out after many uses. The company has set up a Web site at www.cribrecallcenter.com.

Save Money on Travel, Food, and Prescriptions
How to save money on three things – travel, food, and prescriptions. I found this in Reader’s Digest.
• We’ll start with how to save money when you TRAVEL: Talk to a human being at the airline. Why? Because a website – whether it’s an airline’s or a discounter’s – doesn’t always have all the cheapest flights. So before you make any decisions, try calling the airline’s 800-number for flight information.
• If you’d like to save money on FOOD, try this. Buy locally. It can cost $0.75 just to ship a cantaloupe from California to the East Coast and $2 to cover the freight for a watermelon traveling from Florida to your grocery store.
• The final money-saving tip is for PRESCRIPTIONS: Compare prices. You can compare the cost of FDA-approved medications at certified pharmacies in the United State at destinationrx.com. You can also check out the ‘Options to Consider’ box for money-saving suggestions.
