KSBJ talks about how much help their volunteers are. I have got to experience how much of a help they truly are. Every morning I have showed up to work, there have been volunteers rockin’ their jobs like true champions, workin’ hard for the betterment of this great station. Now during Sharathon has been a great look into how much KSBJ really depends on the people of Houston and the surrounding areas to survive and to continue being an influential power in this world. Volunteers have filled the rooms with their presence, prayers and their help. What a great witness! But what has truly shown me how much these volunteers want to help was something that happened today.

I was hanging out, talking with a table of phone volunteers and just getting to know some people here. One of these ladies I was talking with was telling me about her family and somehow the conversation strayed to why Coop = girlfriendness. This woman, with helping in her heart, looks to the girl sitting right next to her and says “Hey, you and Coop would look so cute together!” Now that is help! I wasn’t aware I needed the help, but apparently I do.

Thank you, you volunteers! Y’all are awesome and its been a pleasure meeting y’all!

And a big shoutout to my cowboy hat-wearing volunteer crew! Yee-haw.

At 9:01 a.m. PRAISE GOD we reached our Monthly Operations goal of $310,000!!

Now we’re focused on this Special Projects goal of $1.7 million. And what’s got to happen to reach our goal by 10 p.m. tonight is to raise $1 million. While that seems like a lot of money, we understand through everything else that we serve a mighty God who is faithful and that together with you, this goal can be accomplished.

What are your thoughts?

Some terms you hear often during Sharathon might have you scratching the top of your head in confusion, so we’re to help!

El Kabong:: In telephone central, there are 48 phones. When all 48 phones are manned (typically during The Morning and Afternoon Show) by our faithful volunteers, at any given moment, the DJ’s onair could call for a Texas Phone Blitz and have listeners call at at once to ring each phone. If all 48 phone light up with calls, once #48 rings, El Kabong sounds. It’s a huge deal.

Centurion Giver:: This is an opportunity to give a gift of $100 a month.

HTV’s - Highly Trained Volunteers:: This is who you talk to once calling 1-800-893-5725 to give your gift of support!

EFT - Effort Free Transaction:: Electronic Funds Transfer makes it easy for you to give monthly, weekly, whatever. When you call to give, ask how you can set this up!

“Sharathon is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to being a Christian. Before becoming a Christian, and quite honestly even after I was first a Christian, I still didn’t get why to give. Think about it, you have worked hard to earn that money. Why give it away? That’s dumb.

Well, it was not until I realized some principals about giving, that I started to give, and then follow a lifestyle of giving. When you find out that the more freely you can give, then the more freely it comes back to you. When you start to walk by faith, and trust me, giving is walking by faith, that is when God’s true system of providence kicks in. If it is true that God really owns it all, then aren’t you just giving away what “He” has given you? And if “He” is in charge of giving it to you, then isn’t He the one that says, ” here is a servant that is faithful in little, I am going to make him faithful with much.”

Ever since my wife and I have been givers, we have also been receivers of checks we didn’t write, and houses lived in that we didn’t have to pay for. We actually lived in a house for free once!!!.

So I challenge you to try it out. Listen to God. What would He have you give? Then follow through and watch what God does with your gift to bless others, and then see how He blesses you!”

In the 4 p.m. hour, we asked you to be 1 of 10 people to call and say “Yes, I can give $1 a day for KSBJ.” And we didn’t hear from 10 of you on this specific request, instead we heard from 20! Thank you thank you thank you, our hearts are exploding with joy!

Here’s what else happened this late afternoon:
* Jon Hull did The Twist for Jen D and Liz J.
* We experienced two El Kabongs!
* Received a call from Ida who gave up two lunches a week for KSBJ and gave her gift of $10 a week!

And more to come!

My first Sharathon ever…it’s been quite a week. KSBJ staff is in the middle of ‘Spirit Week,’ which means we have a week where we are all wearing the same clothes. Yesterday was the K-day and so we rocked some Kamo clothing as a staff. The rest of the staff actually have KSBJ Kamo shirts from a camp they went to before I was hired, so I had to improvise a bit. I found me some Kamo. But it wouldn’t be the way anyone else would. I didn’t wear Kamo pants or find a Kamo shirt. No, I got a Kamo blanket and wore it as a cape. This cape was stellar. It flowed as I walked down hall ways. It flew as I did my last minute Sharathon tasks. I inherited a new nickname from this cape : Frodo. All I need is to be short, have incredibly hairy feet, and wear a ring that needs to be destroyed in order to save the world.

I only fill one of those requirements

I’ll let ya’ll guess which one it is.”

During the 10 a.m. hour, our amazing phone volunteer Tom (Table 1) answered a call from a telemarketer named Rachel who was calling but not aware Sharathon 2008 was taking place. She called with the intent to sell advertisements to KSBJ but as Tom talked to her about Sharathon, he was able to ask her how she felt about giving to the ministry of KSBJ… and she did.
This is a first time story for KSBJ, telemarketer calls wanting to sell something and ends up giving. Thank you Rachel!

And then Kharli at Table 2 received a call from Danielle who works at 24Hr Fitness. Always sharing her faith, Danielle passes out tracks of faith at work and this week has written messages on the back of each, telling about KSBJ Sharathon, the 30-Day Challenge and the music.
Thanks Danielle for your gift and for helping spread the message of hope in your workplace!
