Converting to an HD life
I’m ashamed to admit it, but I am not good with technology when it comes to television.
I have been in radio 20 years. I can run audio boards, computers and edit interviews. But when it comes to the TV and hooking it up to surround sound and all that stuff I am no good.
So this realization led me to hire someone to come out to hook everything up right. We have surround sound but the back speakers have not ever worked right. Or, it would be fine through the radio, but not the DVD.
I got the guy, paid him, and then everything else went haywire.
The TV went out. It was under warranty, so the repairman came out to the house and fixed the convergence. I didn’t know what that was, I just wanted it fixed so the picture didn’t sag anymore.
I learned those are the lines that let you see a picture. I got to hold the part that burnt out. It was no bigger than a dollar folded in half, and if I hadn’t had the warranty, it would have cost me $300! (I love warranties)
So, yesterday, as a Christmas gift for my hubby, I had a technician come out to the house to put in an HD DVD that I got for cheap from a website. The installation was only supposed to take 2 hours at the most.
Five and a half hours later, he was handing me the paperwork to sign.
I thought this was over. Finally, we would be able to watch football in HD.
I was wrong.
It was working fine until my husband walked in and made himself comfortable on the couch. Then, the picture started doing annoying things, like it was purposefully trying to gaslight him!
I must have called the company we are with over 10 times that day. I can tell you they have home offices in Alabama, South Dakota, and Oregon, to name a few.
It was NOT supposed to be this way. I thought this was supposed to make viewing easier, not more complicated.
I am now waiting for a senior technican to come out to the house on Tuesday to re-install the system right.
Maybe he can actually hook up the surround sound the right way too.
When I was talking to customer service to set all of this up, the woman tried to sell me the extended channels HD package. She told be they would be getting so many more channels in HD like Food Network.
I told her the only reason we were interested in HD at my house was for sports and that if I really wanted to look that closely at food, I would go make myself a sandwich!
