My Wishes Aren’t Always His Plan

It was supposed to be a fun date night, and a productive weekend.  But it didn’t turn out that way.

I enjoy going out to KSBJ concerts, and Third Day’s Christmas Offerings was no exception.  My husband took the day off just so he would be able to get there on time.  I cannot remember the last time we actually got to a concert together, on time, before it started.

We walked in and standing there was a guy my husband and I both knew when we worked in Nashville.  He had an “all access” pass on.   Turns out, he is managing Third Day.

The world is very small.  We said hello, showed pictures of kids—our kids are the same age! Too funny!

Then, we went to our seats and the concert started.  I looked down and my phone had a message.  I went into the lobby.

Rachel was sick and wanted to know if she had to eat dinner.  She didn’t feel like eating.

We were an hour away and had just sat down.  I told her we were going to be there a little while and promised to leave early.

We stayed for all of Jars of Clay and left about halfway through Third Day.

It’s a good thing we went home when we did.  She ended up getting sicker.

Once she realized that she was sick she became very upset because she was supposed to go somewhere the next morning.  I could relate.

After all, what is life but consistant changes?  We have a plan, but God has a different one.  What choices we make when the plans change affect our future.

So, when we couldn’t go out the next morning, Rachel set up a pretend picnic and game hour.  While I was on the computer, she delivered the invitation she created. I abandoned my work.

What I discovered was a treasured moment.  We played “American Girl Wishes” game.  It is a game where girls discover things about themselves; what they would love to do, who they want to be when they grow up.  We spent an hour playing this game where many ideas/wishes made her face light up.  I learned so much about her in that hour.

God has a plan; sometimes we don’t understand that His plan is so much better than ours.  Had she not been sick and had to miss her activity, I would have missed out.

I’m glad He has plans greater than ours.
