Reality TV is every night
I haven’t been the biggest fan of reality shows.
Okay, I have watched a few. Like The Bachelor (and Bachelorette) and Supernanny.
Now, Oprah’s got one called “The Big Give.”
You know, this whole reality show stuff has turned into quite a business. Who would have thought 20 years ago we would all be sitting in front of the television to watch a bunch of women fighting for one man’s affections?
Oprah’s new show “The Big Give” is where people in the show are given money to do random acts of kindness and service and the prize at the end is a million dollars for the winner.
While the premise is interesting, I’m kinda thinking, didn’t we already have this lesson in the Bible? Aren’t we already supposed to be giving BIG anyway?
I mean, look, Jesus said things like, “Sell all you have and give to the needy.” “Give and it will be given back to you.” “In the same way you give to others, it will be measured back to yourselves.”
So, while Oprah’s Big Give sounds exciting and new, it really is not. The winner has a million dollars at the end of the show.
Our reward with Jesus in heaven is waiting–and it is WAY better in the long run than Oprah’s million.
Supernanny is one of my favorites. So is Clean House/Clean Sweep. I watch them when I can.
But yesterday was one of those days where I could have been in a reality tv show. The kids were a bit rowdy; at one point we had 5 kids over here. The house was a bit messy; who ever gets caught up with laundry? And then, the stove went out and one whole side of the electrical outlets in my kitchen wouldn’t work. I punched that GCFI thingy and still nothing…..circuit breakers in the garage didn’t do it either. This was all last night, mind you!
I’m not an electrician, so we were making coffee in the living room this morning! The kids were complaining that we had a cold breakfast (no stove; no eggs).
I’m thinking, who needs reality TV, I’ve got kids!! And who needs The Bachelor, I have a great, romantic husband! And, who needs the Clean Sweep people when…
Um..wait a minute….okay, I still need them! (Wish I lived within an hour of Los Angeles!)
