The RED Jar

Everyone has a system at school.

At my son’s school, it is jars.  There’s an orange jar and a red jar.

The orange jar is the warning jar.  The red jar is the “you’re in big trouble jar.”

Each student has a star with their name on it attached to a stick. If the child mishaves, they are sent to the appropriate jar.

In just four days of school, my son was sent to the red jar TWICE.

My conversations with his teacher were 50% apologetic and 50% supportive.  I know I have a strong willed son.  He gets his mind set on something, and he says what is on his mind.

Did I say “says?”  More like yells!

He does not know how to filter his mouth….he says or yells exactly what he thinks.

He got in trouble the third day of school for yelling at his teacher–he was mad.  The very next day, he kicked a little girl because she was sitting where he wanted to sit!  He was angry and used his anger in a very wrong direction!

He is not normally a mean kid.  However, he has his moments; and those moments, quite frankly, need refining.

So, we have figured out that the best thing to do in this situation is partner with his teacher.  I talked with her and told her that whatever it takes; I am prepared to do what she asks of me.

If you feel led, would you please pray for Ben to transition into this whole school thing and that his heart would be transformed?  Also pray that his teacher will have the wisdom to discipline him in a way that will be effective.

Strong willed boys grow up to be leaders.  It’s important that we encourage them to tone it down without breaking their spirit.  Pray that I learn how to do that!!
