DK the Ice Dancer?

Last night I got some comments on my Facebook wall about how DK bears a striking resemblance to a member of the US Ice Dancing team, Charlie White. So, I thought I’d take a poll and see what you think!

Do you think DK looks like Charlie White?

Yes, he has a future in Ice Dancing!

Not a chance!

Photos From Space!

The crew woke up to U2 this evening and 2 of them (Bob and Nick) will go out the door in a few hours on the first of three scheduled spacewalks during this mission. *Many thanks to our good friend Todd Hellner who keeps us so close in touch with all the wondrous events happening in space!

You can click on each photo to see it more clearly and in it’s entirety!

  1. What the Space Station looks like to the astronauts on the Space Shuttle as they approach it for docking.
  2. What the Space Shuttle looks like to the astronauts on the Space Station as the Orbiter gets closer to docking.  Notice the Tranquility Node 3 in the back end of the Shuttle cargo bay.
  3. Bob Behnken exercising on the stationary bike on the Shuttle.
  4. Terry Virts exercising on the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) on the Station.  It’s like a bowflex, in that it uses resistance rather than free weights to get a workout.  Obviously lifting weights in space wouldn’t be enough to exercise your muscles.
  5. Bob in the airlock, checking out the spacesuits he will use to go out for a spacewalk.
  6. Nick Patrick “flying” like Superman down the middle of the Space Station.
  7. Terry and Kay Hire in the Space Shuttle middeck, with George “Zambo” Zamka in the background.  Notice the strap that Terry is holding onto is on the ceiling of the middeck.  Looks like he just finished brushing his teeth.  Zambo is in the background, coming out from behind the potty door, trying to assemble his razor.

Please continue to pray for the crew of the STS-130!! You can learn more by going to www.nasa.gov !!

Brandon In Space.

Well, he didn’t actually go to space but close to it. A friend of ours who works at NASA, Todd Heller introduced us to Pilot Terry Virts well over a year ago and it’s been exciting to keep in touch with him as he’s prepped for the STS-130 mission that launched last Monday morning!

Brandon Heath was at Cape Canaveral along with his buddy Matt Wertz, my fiance DK, my dad, The Hellner’s and Jenny Simmons from Addison Road, along with her dad as well. The launch was scrubbed while we were there but Brandon stayed on to see it the following morning.

I had a chance to catch up with Brandon as he was leaving Florida and here’s what he had to say…

Amos.

Even though singer songwriter Aaron Ivey and his family live in Austin, Texas, they’ve been affected by the earthquake in Haiti in a very personal way. Their adopted son Amos, who they’ve been working to bring home to the States for nearly two years, is still there in Haiti. And by the grace of God, he is safe.

I was so moved by their story, their conviction, and their advocacy for adoption and felt you’d be blessed by this as well. Watch the interview with the Ivey’s from CNN here.

Then watch the music video of the song written for Amos here.

Beautiful Marathon Story…

Just read this in the Houston Chronicle, had to share!
“Sarah Ward and her 16-year-old son, Zach, weren’t runners. Before last spring, neither had ever attempted to jog more than a couple miles. And on those rare occasions when they had put their feet to the pavement, the experience didn’t speak to them in a particularly meaningful way.

“I never really thought about running,” Zach said, “although I might have run four miles once. I didn’t enjoy it that much.”

“I’ve never been athletic,” his mother admitted. “Not at school, not intramurals, nothing at all really.”

But getting blindsided by a tragedy brought on a dramatic change in both of them. “

Search Homeless.

Helping keep Houston’s homeless men and women warm during these brutally cold nights, Search Homeless is an incredible organization providing coats and blankets to as many as possible. But their supplies have run out and they are in great need of any new or gently used blankets and coats.

Extreme Home Makeover in Houston!

If you’d like to help rebuild the Beaches’ home, you can volunteer by clicking here!!

The Beach family lives right here in our own great city who have dedicated their lives to loving and raising their 13 children, some adopted and with special needs. Their home was devastated by Hurricane Ike in 2008 and we are THRILLED to see them blessed in this way.

Stay tuned as we keep you up to date on the progress of their new home and how you can get involved! - Liz
