The Classic Crime donates pre-sale profits to Haiti

NEWS SOURCE: Overture Media
February 2, 2010

SEATTLE, WA…February 2, 2010…Tooth & Nail Records’ The Classic Crime left their hearts in Haiti last November on their first trip to the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Months before the 7.0 magnitude earthquake, The Classic Crime visited Bon Repos, a collection of villages in rural Haiti, with JesusInHaitiMinistries (JiHM, a non-profit) experiencing first-hand the poverty-stricken country. Upon returning from Haiti, the band set their hearts and minds to using their musical platform to do good for others. Two months later the country was devastated by the largest earthquake in 200 years, amplifying the band’s passion to give back to Haiti.

The Classic Crime is set to release their third studio album, “Vagabonds” on Tooth & Nail Records April 6, 2010. The band will begin a pre-sale of their album this week, donating all profits from the pre-sale to JiHM in Haiti. Link below for pre-sale purchase. (http://bit.ly/tccpreorder)

“All profits generated from our pre-sale will go to JiHM for earthquake relief in the rural areas of Haiti,” explains Matt MacDonald, vocalist. “JiHM leader Tom is the only lifeline to thousands of Haitians in Bon Repos and surrounding villages, as food and water haven’t left Port-Au-Prince in two weeks. He spends 18 hours a day with his staff of over twenty delivering water, food, and medical supplies to hundreds of people who would otherwise starve. This pre-order is designed to provide specifically for his relief efforts. It will save lives.”

In addition to raising funds for Haiti through their album pre-sale, the band will be releasing a series of videos from their time in Haiti to show others the condition of this country prior to the earthquake, which will be a reminder that this country was already in rough condition. Beginning February 1st and leading up to the release of the album, each video will be posted on The Classic Crime’s Facebook, MySpace and YouTube pages.

“JiHM is a small yet effective non-profit, made up of individuals obsessed with helping Haiti in all the right ways,” shares MacDonald. “After experiencing the mission first hand I can say that not only do I truly believe in the effectiveness of their brand of servanthood, I am blown away by the conviction of their love for the people they serve. Now with the earthquake, putting a face to the devastation, it really hits home.”

This third studio album, “Vagabonds,” recorded in just three weeks time, is pared down with the most basic elements mirroring The Classic Crime’s live sound. A band that doesn’t follow musical trends that fade quickly, The Classic Crime makes music for their dedicated fanbase. The band also hopes that their fans see what they are concerned with and that they are trying to make the world a better place.

“Summing up the theme of this album, is it’s not about needing money or material things to be happy, it’s about playing music as this is what we were place on earth to do,” MacDonald states. “After our trip to Haiti, we have a much better perspective on what we value and what we want to do with our platform.”

About The Classic Crime:
The Classic Crime isn’t limited to scenes, trends or even genres. They hail from the rich music scene of Seattle, WA. After their debut album “Albatross,” (the largest first week sales for a new band in the label’s history) they released their sophomore album “The Silver Cord” in 2008. Touring history for the band includes Warped Tour (twice), Owl City, Relient K, MxPx, Anberlin and Emery. The Classic Crime is Matt MacDonald (vocals), Justin DuQue (guitar), Robbie Negrin (guitar), Paul “Skip” Erickson (drums) and Alan Clark (bass).

Disciple’s Guitarist has 3 surgeries in 5 days

NEWS SOURCE: Disciple, a Jesusfreakhideout.com report
February 2, 2010… Disciple’s guitarist Andrew Welch posted an update to fans asking for prayer and support for the band’s second guitarist, Micah Sannan, who has suffered three surgeries recently. Please read the report from Andrew below for the details…

Update on Micah and how you can help.

FROM ANDREW: for those of you who don’t know, Micah has been through a LOT lately. about a month ago he had his wisdom teeth taken out. for the next few weeks he had headaches and numbness in his face that continually got worse. he kept going to his orthodontist to see what was up and they kept sending him home with pain medicine. about a week ago Micah’s mom was in town visiting and decided to take him to the hospital. by the time they got to the hospital Micah couldn’t even walk because of the pain. they ran a CT scan and found there was an infection that started in his right jaw and spread to the entire right side of his head. they have since done three surgeries to try to remove the infection and Micah has spent a week in the hospital.

Ok, so obviously the best thing we can do is pray for Micah, and trust me he appreciates our prayers.

But on top of that we’re going to start taking donations to cover some of his medical expenses. I’m not sure on the number exactly, but I know he’s had at least 3 surgeries and that’s a lot of money.

I’m asking you to give whatever you can. Whether if be you’re daily gas station coffee money for a week or if you feel the need to give more. Every single little bit helps! I know times are tough right now, but I know Micah has touched the bands’ life, and if you’ve seen them in concert yours, even if it’s just by putting a smile on your face.

So here’s what we can do:

1. Donate at the shows, Andrew will be more than happy to make sure the money gets to MIcah :)

2. Send cash/check and even a get well card to management at

Platform Artist Management

Thank you for all the prayers, support, and donations!

**UPDATE** February 4, 2010… Here’s a letter to the fans from Disciple’s own Micah himself…

“3 Surgeries, 5 days
Current mood:Well
Hey everybody! This is Micah. Its come to my attention that a lot of people who have been praying for me and donating to me don’t actually know what’s happened. I think that if you’re gonna pray for or donate to somebody that you get to know what your praying for and what your donating to. its taken a few days to sit down and make this happen, for that I apologize. But first things first, Thank thank thank all of you for your thoughts, concerns, prayers and donations already. The amount of prayer that has spread across the U.S. from family to friends to acquaintances to fans. It has been absolutely overwhelming and I am so so thankful for it all.

So here we go, i’ll try not to write a novel….On January 6th I got my wisdom teeth taken out, on the 11th I found out i had 2 dry sockets, both bottom teeth so we dealt with that accordingly. Dry socket is very painful but usually heals quickly. Monday the 18th I was prescribed an an antibiotic to help rid the dry socket, it just wasn’t going away. This whole time I was enduring terrible headaches but just thought it was part of the dry socket deal. Friday the 22nd I was in so much pain that I went back to see my oral surgeon, he x-rayed my mouth and head but didn’t find anything abnormal so he prescribed me another antibiotic and a stronger pain pill. That pill made me finally sleep all of friday night but when i woke saturday the pain was something else. Saturday the 23rd my Mom had a pretty bad feeling and hopped on a plane from oregon. When she landed in the afternoon she knew something was wrong, made a phone call to Dr. Carter (my oral surgeon) and took me to the E.R. at vanderbilt around 2:00AM. Around 5AM sunday the 24th Adam and my mom got the results from my catscan. At this point they had fed me so many drugs i was almost entirely incoherent. What they found was an abscess/infection near the hinge of my jaw on the right side of my mouth and in between my skull and the membrane that protects the brain. Mind you on friday they scanned me and saw nothing so this infection was spreading fast. Immediately they called a team of neurosurgeons, the infectious diseases team and my oral surgeon. They needed to get me in to surgery and remove the abscess from my cranium, they informed Adam and my mom that if the infection spreads to my brain we were up against death, brain damage, paralysis, personality changes, and/or memory loss. Finally at 9:30 sunday morning they took me into surgery and all went well it hadn’t gotten to my brain. I woke up in the Neurological I.C.U. with 6 IV’s in my arms, a drain comin’ out of my half shaved head and a catheter. Now i found out at this point that what had happened to me was very very rare. This was the 3rd case ever recorded that an infection from the mouth had spread to the cranium. This was why i was getting so much attention from all these world class surgeons and doctors. So all was calm until tuesday night when the headaches re-set in. They rushed me to the catscan and found the infection had re-grown in my jaw but my head was all clear. So Wednesday the 27th, I went back under the knife to get it removed again. The labs had came back and the infection was just a form of strep, very common infection in a very uncommon area, they just didn’t understand how it worked its way to my brain or how it was even working its way into the tissue in my mouth and they still don’t really. So Thursday was another recover day but by night i had headaches again, so it was to the scanner Friday morning and again to surgery friday afternoon. The infection had once again walled itself off in the tissue by my jaw. It was pretty discouraging to find out it had come back but what can ya do eh? Finally i made it until Monday the 1st with no irregular pains and no clinical changes. so 15 pounds lighter and high on vicodin they discharged me around 7PM on Monday and i’ve been home since.

Though I’m home, thank God, I’m in the recovery process for the next 8 weeks on a plethora of pills and 4 times a day I’m hooking up to an at home IV antibiotic. Eating’s still a bit of a task because of the healing jaw muscles oh, and half my face and the right side of my mouth and gums is still numb. I did shave my head, pictures to come, i get my staples out tmro and friday the drains come out of my mouth :)If i could ask for one thing, please continue to pray that this infection stays at bay and that the feeling in my face and mouth comes back, the docs couldn’t promise anything on that. As far as donations go, if you feel like you want to financially help out with my medical bills I would be more than grateful and thankful. Andrew Welch has set up a paypal account for me or you can send checks to the address at the bottom of this blog. Thank you all so so much who have already given and again to God for the continuous blessings in this situation. Please know that I am blessed and well and so thankful for such loyal friends fans and family taking such good care over me. hopefully i’ll be back out playin shows soon!

Love all you guys and again, thanks a thousand times for all the prayer.
-Micah”

Bebo sells personal guitar for Haiti

Desiring to give and somehow help in the Haitian relief effort, Bebo Norman and wife Roshare jumped on board by asking Twitter fans on Wednesday to give to Compassion International. The Normans committed for a one-day matching of $5 for every re-tweet of his original message. Due to the overwhelming response by his fans and wanting to do even more, Bebo put one of his personal guitars up for auction on EBayl. The auction concluded January 22nd at 8 pm Central. All funds are going directly to Compassion International for Haiti.

“I honestly can’t place a value on this guitar since it is Number 00-01 in a very limited production (only 128 ever made) and has been in my personal guitar collection as one of my primary ‘songwriting guitars’ for 10 years,” shares Bebo. “This guitar has been the source of quite a few of my songs (“Nothing Without You,” “Try,” “Borrow Mine”), spent one year on tour with me, and is in absolutely amazing condition. This guitar is priceless as far as I’m concerned. The only way I would even DREAM of letting this guitar go is for a cause as important as serving the people of Haiti and meeting them in their time of crisis.”

Oh, what did the guitar sell for? $51,100. Wow!

Mark Stuart in Haiti when earthquake hit

Audio Adrenaline founded an orphanage in Haiti called the “Hands and Feet Project” and former lead singer, Mark Stuart, is currently in Haiti. He was one of the first to report the news of the earthquake because he was there and experienced it first hand! He tweeted on January 12th at 4:36pm “HEY GUYS, WE JUST GOT HIT WITH A 7+ MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HERE IN HAITI. WE ARE ALL OK, BUT THERE IS SO MUCH DESTRUCTION AROUND US. PLEASE KEEP US AND THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF HAITI IN YOUR PRAYERS.” The coming days found him sleeping outside in the dirt and witnessing inconceivable death and destruction. RED & Pillar Tour together

Essential Records rock band RED kicks off a jam-packed January, which will include celebrating its second career GRAMMY nomination at the awards show at the end of the month, by launching its 2010 “Nothing And Everything” tour tonight in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The tour also features fellow hard rock band (and labelmates) Pillar, along with special guests The Wedding and Me In Motion.

The “Nothing And Everything” tour is a meeting of two rock powerhouse bands: RED, which has established itself among the upper echelon of rock bands in just three short years, and Pillar, a band that has helped to pioneer the Christian hard music movement. Touring together for the first time, both bands will bring their signature brand of rock to one stage for a riveting concert event.

Randy Armstrong of RED comments, “At our shows, we always play off the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd. We know how enthusiastic our fans are and imagine Pillar’s fans are just as wild. The combination is going to be explosive. This will be the rock tour of all rock tours.”

“RED has a similar stage dynamic, which makes this a powerful ticket,” says Pillar frontman Rob Beckley. “We are excited they asked us to be a part of the tour and look forward to putting on a show our fans, and theirs, can be proud of.”

Fans attending a “Nothing And Everything” show can also pick up a free copy of Pillar’s “Confessions” book, produced by Pillar’s frontman, Rob Beckley and American Bible Society, aptly titled “Confessions.” The “Confessions” book emerges as a resource to address some of the most salient issues affecting youth today: spiritual doubts, sexuality, brokenness and self image. Each section includes thematic confessions, a short devotional, reflection questions and Scriptures references for digging deeper.

The book, an extension of Pillar’s hard-hitting Confessions album, was inspired by the band’s profound spring 2009 “Confessions Tour.” A confessional curriculum called “My Secret,” taught at the band’s local Tulsa, Ok. church, changed the way Pillar chose to engage with fans while on tour.

For the most up to date list of tour dates and to buy tickets for the “Nothing and Everything” tour, please visit: www.redmusiconline.com or www.pillarmusic.com

Nashville-based RED, made up of Michael Barnes (vocals), Anthony Armstrong (guitar) Randy Armstrong (bass), and Joe Rickard (drums), has logged an impressive 1,000+ live shows since releasing its debut album End Of Silence in 2006.

RED’s GRAMMY nominated sophomore project, Innocence & Instinct (2/7/09) released with more than 40,000 in first week sales and climbed its way to the Top 5 on iTunes Top Albums chart. To date, the band has earned eight consecutive No. 1 radio singles, the last three of which are from Innocence & Instinct. The band simultaneously released a Deluxe Edition of Innocence & Instinct that includes four bonus tracks and a DVD featuring the “Death of Me” music video, a “making of” documentary and more. For more information about RED, please visit: www.redmusiconline.com.

Since the 2006 emergence of End Of Silence RED has maintained a near-constant presence on the road, touring alongside notable rock names such as Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, 3 Doors Down, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Saving Abel, Sevendust, Staind, Kutless, Trapt, Third Day, Switchfoot and others, and rave reviews for the band’s live shows have poured in via both print and online outlets alike.

Over its 10 year career, Pillar has reached nearly 1 million in album sales (including two albums with sales exceeding 300,000 copies each), performed for more than three million people and tallied 10 No. 1 radio singles, 13 Top 5 hits, a GRAMMY nomination, four Dove Awards, nine national headlining tours. Confessions, Pillar’s sixth studio album — debuting the talents of new members, bassist Rich Gilliland, drummer Taylor Carroll and new producer, Rob Graves (Red, Wavorly) — released Sept. 22, 2009. The album has inspired Pillar frontman Rob Beckley to co-author a book elaborating on important themes from the record. Co-produced with the American Bible Society, the book, aptly titled “Confessions,” will be available free of charge at tour dates beginning January 14, with book excerpts available at www.pillarmusic.com/confessions.

Pillar’s previous studio album, For the Love of the Game (02/26/08), debuted at No. 4 on SoundScan’s Christian (overall) album chart. Since Pillar’s Dove Award-winning label debut Above in 2001, the band has graced the cover of numerous Christian and mainstream magazines with features in Rolling Stone, Spin, Bass Player, and Hit Parader. The Tulsa, Oklahoma-based band also won Fuse TV’s “Next Big Thing” award and has seen its music played on numerous ESPN sports programs, including SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight (during montage highlights from the 2007 World Series) and College Gameday, as well as CBS and FOX Sports.
