Deliriou5?
Delirious? got their start out of the UK “Cutting Edge” youth meetings
in the early 1990s and one thing led to another and there they were
travelling the globe and visiting more than 25 countries in 2008 alone,
and will hit 10 countries in 2009, with upcoming US concerts in Denver,
St. Louis, Houston, Anaheim and more.
Having released 14 albums and sold nearly three millions recordings in
their career, Delirious? has been seen alongside the Pope in front of a
million people in Germany, played in front of hundreds of thousands of
their closest friends in India, headlined the 2004 Olympic Celebrations
at the Omonia Square in Athens, Greece, toured with Bon Jovi, Bryan
Adams and Matchbox 20, and was a headline performer at SWR3’s Arena of
Sound 2004 music festival, where more than 80,000 fans crammed into the
Schlossplatz in Stuttgart, Germany.
Delirious? is revered from the ends of the earth as a force that brought
a new flavor to worship worldwide. They have 14 songs on the CCLI
charts that are sung in churches around the world by millions of people.
With its music being played and sold in over 100 countries, the band has
received two International Awards by the Gospel Music Association.
The first time I saw Delirious? was in 1999 at the old Lakewood church. A new artist-worshipper by the name of Chris Tomlin, was the opening act for the night. His songs were
alright…and who knows, maybe someday he will find his place in this
crazy world of Christian music.
Fast forward to 2008 and I find myself watching Delirious? perform at a
Joyce Meter conference at Lakewood Church. I thought it would be my 4th
and final concert with this trailblazing worship band from the UK up
close and in person. I said my good-byes and cried my tears. I knew
2009 would be the end. However, my tears were all for naught! 2009
will still be the end of Delirious? as we know them, but they will make
one final stop in Houston on June 12th at Grace Community Church.
I think the main reason for the end of Delirious? if the fact they are
just running out of room on the tour buses. When their entourage pulls
up to the arena, so many kids pile out you would think it was a clown
car. Seriously, they really should paint those buses yellow with a
“D?ISD” on the side just to warn people.
After Delirious? plays their last show and they go their separate ways,
frontman Martin Smith will be focusing his energy on Compassionart, a
Charity based in Littlehampton, England created by Smith and his wife,
Anna with the aim of generating income from works of art to assist in
the relief of suffering around the planet. CompassionArt: Creating
Freedom From Poverty CD/DVD was released in January and was written by
twelve CompassionArt songwriters and artists. Proceeds from this album
will be forever donated to charity. More information can be found at
http://CompassionArt.tv.
“Over the last few years I have had the privilege of travelling to some
of the poorest parts of the world and seeing first hand the plight of
humanity.” Says lead singer, Martin Smith on the organizations website
“As a song writer and a person with a microphone I made a promise to try
and do something about it. What better than to call on my friends and do
something together. To be people that can make a change rather than just
singing about it.”
The artists featured on this one of a kind, 14-song album are Israel
Houghton, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Kirk Franklin, Leeland Mooring,
tobyMac, CeCe Winans and many more.
