Many people are still convinced the only jobs the can apply for are jobs they have done before. But as the workplace changes, many jobs are disappearing – never to return. That doesn’t mean you are out of options – rather, you need to rethink which jobs are a good fit.
Here’s a good way to finding a hot job that fits your talents:
- First, define what are you good at.
- Next, define which of the hot industries appeals to you.
- Then, define which jobs in those fields are a good fit for you.
Hot jobs are in hot industries. Here is my list of “hot” industries:
- Healthcare
- Financial/Regulation
- Technology
- Retail/Service
- Transportation
- Law enforcement
- Education
- The trades
Example:
You worked managing inventory for a company; you dealt often with both customers and vendors. You are very detail-focused. You like keeping things in order, finding efficiencies and sharing information with others.
In the medical field – possible job fit:
- Homecare
- Facility management, hospital maintenance, dr office management
- Medical records management
In the financial and regulatory
- Compliance auditor
- Accountant, analyst
- Demographer or trend analyst
- State government, federal government auditor, analyst
Follow this process to find your fit. Then learn everything you can about the company to know their business and who to talk to get interviewed. Your effort will get you noticed.
