I had the chance to talk with my nail technician last week as she was doing my manicure. She had mentioned that her nephew had been killed by a drunk driver. I was so sorry for her, but I also wanted to know what her belief( She’s Buddhist) said about where her nephew would go now that he was dead.
Her answer was, we don’t know. I said does he go up or as your belief suggests - does he get re-incarnated to try again to get his life right? Her answer was again, we don’t know - it’s what Buddha wants - he is fair. If you are good enough then you can go be with him…but if you’re not really good then you may have to come again. Whatever is fair. She spoke of her heartache about not being able to have children, although she dearly wanted a child, and said it was fair because she must have been bad to children in another life. It’s about what you deserve because of what you’ve done! The word she used over and over was the word fair!
I can remember as a child shouting those words, It’s not fair! I remember feeling that way when my life hit rock bottom just after coming to Houston…God, it’s not fair!
Wow! ” God…..it’s NOT fair and I’m so grateful you’re not “fair”. “ I am so glad that God is not about “fair” giving us what we deserve. I don’t want what I deserve, because I know that I would not deserve all that God has gifted me with. God isn’t about what we deserve, He’s about grace and compassion. He doesn’t give us what we’ve earned and deserve. He gives us what Jesus sacrificed for…He gives us the chance to live forever with Him, He’s prepared a place for us. He offers us forgiveness and love. I will take Forgiveness over fair all of the time…I will take grace over what I deserve every time - what about you? Please pray for Susan my nail tech.

I’d never done it before -
I twittered during my trip to Nashville, trying to keep the tweets going so I could kind of share the experience with you from the Gospel Music Association meeting. It was quite an experience to try and remember to send out a tweet. I usually am just living my life, without sharing the information with someone - and I had to learn that tweets are not really about alot of information, they’re more about observations and experiences! At one point, I was sharing dinner with Mandisa and I tweeted that I gave her part of my steak and she shared part of her fish. How cool a tweet moment is that, but my tweet wasn’t cooperating…well, we had to fix it and I got to tweet the good stuff for the rest of the trip! I will try and keep the twittering going let me know what you want us to twitter for you!
When we’re in Nashville we are going to meet with lots of your favorite artists. Got a question for someone you really want to ask? I’m packin! Not a gun… just a suitcase, or actually three of them - four if you count my second briefcase.
We’re going to Nashville for the next week and I had to pack for that trip, and since I have to go speak to a couple of Women’s Retreats in Florida before returning to Houston, I was packing for two trips. That’s alot of packing…these clothes for this, those for that, what if it’s cold…what if I need something “churchy”…do I have the right shoes, where’s my make up bag. You know all you have to do to be sure your dragging all of your stuff with you to be away for a few days.
It’s the same on our daily packing…we are always packing to go to work, school, home, church…anywhere we go, we have our own baggage to bring along. We all have the stuff that we drag along whenever we go anywhere..those things that we hang on to, hurts from the past, insecurities, and our past or history issues that affect us still.
I packed two suitcases full..and two briefcases too…I’m carrying alot of stuff and it’s draining going through the airport…I have to pull and push and heft and drag that stuff every where I go in the airport and I’m gonna tell you - it makes me so tired! You know something - spiritually and emotionally - I get tired from dragging all of my baggage around too! That’s why it’s so important for us to remember to dump the baggage…Jesus says give me your burdens … my yoke is light….and Paul said, leave what’s behind to strain toward what’s ahead - and that’s an intimacy with Christ…anything that drags you down is rubbish!
I’m tired of packin! How about you?

Industry claims that bottled water is better than tap water are all wet, according to a report by the investigative arm of Congress. The bottled water may not be as safe as tap water, because bottled water is not tightly regulated. Tap water, on the other hand, must meet strict federal health guidelines. Bottled or tap – you need plenty of it in the kind of heat we’re experiencing this summer….so drink up!
Baby floats are being recalled – if you have young children who swim or they come visit you – there’s a recall you need to know about. 4 million inflatable baby floats are being pulled off the shelves. The floats were made by Aqua Leisure Industries – they come in a lot of different shapes and forms – but the problem is the same….the leg straps in the seat can tear and cause the baby to fall through. The floats were sold for between 8 to 15 dollars in all kinds of stores.
High School students are getting a break – they will be able to take more electives and fewer required subjects under a new bill approved by the legislature They don’t have to take two semesters of computer technology any more – don’t have to take a semester of health education either. And PE is reduced from three semesters to two. The new graduation standards are part of an accountability bill lawmakers approved during the regular season. It gives students more course options to prepare for college or training programs.
Bad weather could delay Saturday’s scheduled launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Florida’s regular late-day summer storms are the biggest threat to an on-time launch. Endeavour is launching its seven-member crew on a 16-day mission to the International Space Station.
Have you heard of the Baby Bonus? Senator Charles Schumer is saying the government should give every child born next year a 500 dollar bonus – the program is designed to help people save money for things like college, a home or retirement from the moment they are born.

Houston City Council has voted to refund a local company over one-million dollars for an erroneous water bill. Council members determined yesterday the city overbilled Valero Refining by more than one-point-two-million dollars for water that was never used. The miscalculation began when the city stopped regularly reading Valero’s meter and instead estimated water usage. After ten months, a city inspector discovered the poor judgment last September. The refund comes at a time when other city departments are struggling with cut costs, including health care, police and transportation.
