    Egg alternatives:

We raise quail and eat quail eggs all the time. They taste just like chicken eggs but pound for pound have only half the cholestorol. The down side is that they’re so small that it takes about three quail eggs to make the same size as one chicken egg. We also like to pickle them after boiling them (which only takes 1 minute to boil).

    Mike,

I’ve been listening to your updates about your experience with WW. I just wanted to let you know that I joined WW a little over a year ago and I am now a lifetime member. It took me about 9 months to lose 50 pounds (WOW!!!). I am happier, more confident, and the “Teresa” everyone knows and enjoys has come back out to join the world.

It can be hard in the beginning and you WILL slip. But, when you do, just get back on track and keep your eye on the goal! One thing that helped me is that I looked at it not as a diet, but as a change of lifestyle. And that’s really what it is. You will be much more conscious of what you are putting in the temple that is your body. After a couple months, you’ll find (or at least I did) that you don’t even WANT things like donuts, and the foods pumped so full of chemicals that you can’t really even justify them as foods anymore. One thing that I always told myself, and still tell myself, is “Just because they make it LOOK edible, doesn’t mean you should put it in your body.”

You’ll get tired of counting points, but after a while you’ll know the points values to your favorite foods and even be able to “guesstimate” points values at restaurants. It will become second nature. And one day, you won’t even need to keep track of your points at all. You become more aware of the “signs of hunger” and you’ll be able to identify the foods that are good for you, and which ones you should run away from screaming. Just STICK TO IT. So many people I know say that WW doesn’t work. I always ask them “How closely did you follow it?” You HAVE to keep track of your points and follow the plan like your life depends on it. Because, really, it does. (I don’t think I need to get into the health benefits of losing weight.)

I know I sound like a WW spokesperson, but I promise I’m not. I’m not a nutritionist or anything either (if I was, I probably wouldn’t have had to join WW in the first place). I just get REALLY excited when I hear that someone is doing WW. It completely transformed me, my confidence, and my health. And it makes me happy when other people are striving to better themselves and the one body that God gave them.

    Good luck!!!
    Teresa

    Mike,

Something that has helped me and my husband (since February, he’s lost 45 pounds and I’ve lost 30), is eating off a small plate. At home we fill up a salad plate with whatever we are eating (a small piece of meat, usually chicken, and a good helping of veggies – caulfilower has replaced potatoes and I have some awesome recipes). And we do get full, we just aren’t miserably stuffed.

I’m the type of person that I will eat everything on my plate. So at home we fill the salad plate and then my brain says “I get to eat all of it”, but it is less than what I would have eaten before.

We are still working on when we eat out. We need to try ordering one entre and sharing it. If we don’t do that, then I try to literally divide my meal as soon as it is put in front of me and I only eat half and then take the rest home. That way I have lunch the next day at work and that has helped to save money.

The biggest thing is don’t deprive yourself. There is nothing that you can’t eat. You just eat less of it.

I keep unsalted peanuts and almonds at my desk. That way if I do get hungry during the day, that is readily available and I’m not tempted to walk down the long hallway to the snack machine.

I’m at a plateau, though, now and I know the next step is exercise. You may here from me again if I find “answers” on how to fit it in with my schedule. :)

God bless you and your beautiful family.

    Your sister in Christ,
    Casey
