Got a circuit city gift card – better use it quick!  Circuit City claims it’s gotta sell soon or it’s going to be no more…it’s already filed for bankruptcy..if they can’t find a buyer by Friday – the company says it’s going out of business.

 

With the Stock market slide that took a lot of people’s savings for retirement and for college for the kids…families are in between a rock and a hard place…the kids college fund – or our retirement savings….Financial planners have this advice – you can take out a loan for college – but you can’t take out a loan for your retirement. So protect the retirement.

 

Cell phones are dangerous behind the wheel…the National Safety Council wants us to stop using our cell phones while we’re driving and they plan to lobby inevery state for laws BANNING any electronic communications device – including hands free phones while driving… A study done by the Harvard Center of Risk Analysis found cell phone use while driving accounts for roughly six-percent of all auto accidents. 

 

 

Toyota is going to put out a tiny little battery powered car on the road in the next three years – and the little electric car is not only tiny, but you can plug it into a normal electrical outlet to recharge it! Not going to be on sale til 2012.

 

Please be praying for this family…it was a shock for everyone….A car fire Sunday at a low-rider car show almost trapped a three-year-old inside the burning vehicle. The fire began in the back of the car – perhaps because of all the equipment in the truck to run the hydraulics and speakers…. Both  the little boy and his father were taken to the hospital to be treated for burns.

 

If you’ve been waiting for help after Hurricane Ike – good news…Texas homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damage during Hurricane Ike have a little more time to register for FEMA disaster assistance.  FEMA has extended today’s deadline until February sixth.  Disaster assistance could include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repair and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources.  February sixth is also the deadline for individuals and businesses to submit low-interest disaster loan applications from the U.S. Small Business Administration.  State and federal officials are urging Ike victims to register as soon as possible by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or by visiting FEMA.gov.

 

It’s the first time since July…but gasoline prices have gone up a ….it’s gone up about 12 cents a gallon…the experts don’t expect the price to dramatically rise over the next few months…but it’s not expected to go DOWN either.

 

One last Wierd bit of news….a 107 year old woman in China has decided she wants to marry.  While she’s never been married before, the government is helping her search for a man over 100 she can marry.  She told her family, “what will happen to me if I don’t hurry up and get married?”  Hurry up and marry!?  She’s 107, shouldn’t that mean the hurry up is a little over due!?
