Miley Cyrus is a star…she’s living large in L.A……but is it all you THINK it is?
When Miley Cyrus was leaving Los Angeles to go to Georgia to film her new movie…she actually broke down in tears because she was so happy to finally escape the paparazzi…she says she was finally getting to feel like a “normal” teenager. She says:
“I got on the plane and I was lying in my mom’s lap and crying and saying I’m so happy to be getting out of L.A.” In georgia, I went out with my friends, I did karaoke, I danced…all this stuff would’ve been such a big deal in LA ‘ who’s she with…why is she there…’ I felt alive and real. It’s so much easier to know who you are when there aren’t a thousand people telling you who they THINK you are!”
Miley says she felt like the time away from the spotlights and hotlights of hollywood freed her of some physical insecurities too. She said, ” I used to ask everyone all day, do I look pretty? I probably asked that question as many times as I blink. In Georgia, I got over it…not because I started to feel beautiful but because I was comfortable. I was so used to the paparazzi and the cameras and the ‘what are you wearing’ and people staring at me.”
Miley is only 17 years old. She’s been under this kind of star pressure for the past four almost five years. from the time she was 13 years old. I can’t imagine the pressure that it must be, and to have to endure it daily in front of the flash of the camera everywhere you go. Every move you make is questioned. The stress on anyone would break you…but for a teenaged girl trying to come of age and be the woman she wants to be. Even a Christian girl who is navigating these tough waters has to make mistakes, we all have.
So as Christians, how should we respond when someone in Hollywood disappoints us, or does something that we question? Clicking our tongue and shaking our head in disapproval is too easy, isn’t it? We should be holding these people up in prayer. Asking God to help guide them, send someone to them who understands what they face and can help them navigate with Christ as their Northern star and their Guide for life.
I don’t know about you, but the story of Miley falling into her mother’s arms on the plane and crying her heart out has made me want to pray for her daily…and hopefully to care more about the people we call stars and what life is like for them. I get to go have fun with my friends all of the time and am never hounded by cameras or pushy rumor magazines. They aren’t as lucky as I am….I’m going to pray for them. What about you?

I am going to pray for Miley Cyrus because she is a human being and she deserves the best just like everyone else.”God protect this child that needs of you everyday. Touch her heart and protect her from all evil” Amen.

I am so touched by this pouring out of God’s love and forgiveness in his people for this girl. She is trying to do so much and like the rest of us, she will have times when she faulters in her walk. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to have all of your mistakes publicized for millions to see and read about. What if that happened to all of us? I know I wouldn’t look too Christian in the eyes of those judging me. We all make mistakes everyday, and she is just like us. We do need to pray and forgive and see this for what it is.

While it’s true that we are no one to judge the actions of others. I think it’s important to remember what a real role model should be. While Miley’s behavior is questionable at best, it’s tough not to point out that real Christians don’t want the kind of stardom she has, nor the fleshly trappings it brings. Everything that glitters isn’t gold, and selling your integrity to get it doesn’t make me feel sorry for her one bit.
