The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the biggest of it’s kind in the world! For three weeks, everyone feels like a cowboy or cowgirl and everyone is Texan to the bone!
While I know there are some things that happen on the rodeo grounds that wouldn’t be something you’d want to happen or see at church – this is a family friendly place and it’s alot of fun for everyone!
As one of the more than 22-thousand volunteers paying for the right to work our boots off….I love the fact that with volunteer labor the costs are kept down and the money traised actually goes to help Texas kids with scholarships! It’s about the kids to those of us that work the rodeo…you hear it all of the time in our committee meetings and when people talk about the experience…it’s the biggest scholarship event anywhere!
I get a kick out of the pig races…I’m as mesmerized as the kids are when the eggs are hatching or the cows are giving birth to those little spindly legged calves…and is there anything cuter than baby lambs and piglets!?
This is the quintessential Texas experience…rodeo, family fare and lots and lots of food! Anything you want comes on a stick at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo…there is alligator meat on a stick, pizza on a stick…sausage on a stick and anything you could possibly imagine is being deep fried somewhere on the grounds! I even saw deep fried coke last year.
I take my spot at the gates this afternoon as part of the biggest committee – the GateKeepers. We are the ones that have the jeans, white shirts with black boots and cowboy hats at the gates and taking your tickets….so, rememeber when you’re at the Rodeo almost anyone you see working the event is a volunteer so smile…be nice and enjoy yourself!

Hi Susan,
Good to have you back. My prayers that God will not only heal you but you whole in Jesus Name. Amen.
KSBJ keeps me singing and laughing on my way to and back from work.
May God continue to bless KSBJ. You minister to me with the right word and song.
Have a great weekend.
