Going Deeper . . . Do Something!

By Sterling Tarrant

Have you ever looked at your to-do list and felt kind of paralyzed? For me, I get the deer in the headlights look when I see all of the multiple items hurtling at me. And not to mention — all with an equally high priority!

In the book Getting Things Done, David Allen has a way to get around that. It’s by using “two-minute tasks.” Those are tasks that you go ahead and do if they take two minutes or less. It’s a process that gets you moving. You’ll find that if you devote two minutes to a project, you’ll probably end up spending more time on it and getting more done.

That’s a concept one of our KSBJ artists knows about. Matthew West says it in his song called “Do Something.” See if this doesn’t sound like somebody frustrated by a big to-do list:

I woke up this morning
Saw a world full of trouble now….
So, I shook my fist at Heaven
Said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
He said, “I did, I created you.”

Recently, I was on the KSBJ Israel Trip where we saw the site of Jesus’ crucifixion. It was at this small dot on the map that the whole world was changed. I think we sometimes forget that we are just small dots, but we’re able to make a big difference in the world — if we just do something.

That’s why you’ll hear us talking about David in the next few weeks. He picked up the sling and the stone and let God do the rest. He was a little dot who did a less-than-two-minute task, and he changed the world.
