He is Risen, Hope is Here

He is Risen, Hope is Here

On a Friday, Jesus’ followers felt hopeless and defeated when they saw His body on the cross. We experience similar emotions each day through the headlines, financial stress, health issues and family struggles. But Jesus wasn’t defeated. He has Risen and His hope is here. And through this work on the cross, you have victory. Join KSBJ as we reflect on the meaning of Easter, walk through the events of Holy Week and celebrate Christ’s resurrection, a moment that gave us the greatest hope of all.

Journey with us through Holy Week

Text HOLYWEEK15 to 51555 to follow along with us each day as we remember the events of Jesus’ journey to the cross. Texts will begin March 29th! Be sure and check out the great timeline below if you would like more information. Plus during Holy Week, we’ll also have the KSBJ Prayer Lines fully staffed with volunteers ready to pray with and encourage you! Call 281-446-5725 to receive prayer.

Easter Witness Cross

Since He is Risen, show you have hope by placing an Easter Witness Cross in your front yard. For more details, click here. You can also get creative by drawing a cross on the back window of your car with the words “He is Risen, Hope is Here” inside it. Simply use a window marker, liquid shoe polish, or soap - all wash off easily. To get your little ones involved, download and print out the Easter Cross Coloring Sheet below!

Praying for Mark Hall

We received news that dear our friend Mark Hall is facing cancer. You know Mark’s voice from his ministry as lead singer of Casting Crowns. Mark went through surgery to remove the cancer Wednesday, March 11th, and praise God, he is now in recovery. The doctors said everything went very well and it was actually probably the fastest they’ve completed the procedure. Let’s continue praying for healing and peace for Mark and his loved ones as he recovers. Below is a special message from Mark to you. Thank you for praying with us.

Click here to join us in praying for Mark.

Hey Casting Crowns Family,

I would appreciate your prayers.

Doctors found a solid mass in my right kidney about a week ago. They are 90% sure it’s cancer and they are going to remove the entire kidney Wednesday, March 11th. They believe the cancer is contained in the kidney, which is also a great hope. They will know more once it is out and Pathology can see it.

I’ll be in recovery for a month or a little longer because of the surgery. Please pray for healing and for God’s peace for my family.

Praising Him in This Storm

Mark Hall

It Starts With You

30 Day Challenge: It Starts With You!

Writing out your New Year’s resolutions and goals? Here’s a couple we want to help you keep and maintain: improve your life as well as the lives of people around you.

It starts with you! The key to changing your life lies in your decision to strengthen your relationship with God. That’s why we encourage you to make better choices in the new year by choosing things that bring you closer to Him. Allow God to speak to you and draw closer to Him by listening to uplifting music, God’s Word, and positive messages on KSBJ.

Take the 30 Day Challenge

The 30 Day Challenge is about tuning out the distractions that keep our minds from focusing on God—it’s about listening to music that focuses on life from God’s perspective—for a month, and then seeing the positive changes in our own lives—and in the lives of the people around us. Take the 30 Day Challenge by listening to nothing but Christian music on KSBJ, for 30 days. Use #KSBJ30DC on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to share with us how the Challenge has impacted your life.

We’d also love to send you emails of encouragement throughout your 30 Day Challenge and pray for you, too. Sign up to receive our 30 Day Challenge emails.

Click to learn more about the 30 Day Challenge and share the Challenge with others.

More Ways to Start Your Year Off Right

Along with listening to Christian music straight for the next 30 days, there are other things you can do to draw closer to God and change the lives of those around you. Plus, join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter to share these challenges with your friends and family.

Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”

What does it mean to “live life unashamed?” Living unashamed is about sharing Jesus, and showing Jesus to others. As Christians, we are called to boldly display our faith. Over the next couple weeks, we invite you to join us in living Unashamed. Here’s how your family can get involved:

See You at the Pole (SYATP)

Your kids can join you in living Unashamed by participating in SYATP at their school on September 24th. This year’s theme is Never Stop Praying, following Paul’s passage on the armor of God where he challenges and encourages Christ followers to stand strong in the Lord and be His representatives in sharing the Gospel.

All around the globe, students will gather at flagpoles to pray for their school, friends, families, churches, and communities. Learn more about See You at the Pole and ways to get involved.

Our KSBJ on the Street team would also love to meet your kids at local See You at the Pole locations. Click below to learn which SYATPs we’ll be attending and tell us about your SYATP experience by using the hashtags #KSBJflagpole and #neverstoppraying.

Share Your Story with Us

  • Tell us how you live life unashamed for Christ and your story could be shared on-air! Simply call our studio line at (281) 446-5725, Option 7.
  • Show us how you’re living unashamed by using the hashtag #Unashamed on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls

Back-to-school season can be hectic for kids and families, but for some children, it’s a reminder of not having enough—not having enough money for basic school clothes, like shoes.

A simple pair of shoes may not seem like a big deal, but it can make a BIG difference! There are many children in the Houston area who are living in poverty and need a new pair of shoes to start the school year. That’s why KSBJ and Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls are collecting new athletic shoes during the month of August.

Your gifts of new pairs of shoes will show children the love of Jesus and help them walk in class with confidence during the new school year. You will let them know they are special and remind them they are not forgotten.

Here’s How You Can Help

While you’re out and about this back-to-school season, pick-up a pair of new athletic shoes to bless a child in the Houston area! We’re collecting athletic shoes in sizes Youth 1 through Adult 9. Donated shoes will go to children served by the Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls programs in the Houston area and if that need is met, shoes will go to children in need in surrounding areas.

When you are ready to drop off your new pair of shoes, you can visit:

  • Local Drop Off Locations: Visit a LifeWay Christian Store or South Main Baptist Church during the month of August to drop off a pair of new shoes and bless a child. Click to view a map of shoe drop off locations.
  • The Shoe Drive with KSBJ On the Street on August 16th: You can also come by the Buckner Aldine Family Hope Center on Saturday, August 16th to drop off new shoes, write an encouraging note to the child who will receive them, and visit with KSBJ on the Street and Johnny B! Click below to view event details.

Equipping Parents

Equipping Parents

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. -Proverbs 22:6

If you’re a parent, you probably know that it can be a challenge to really, effectively, share your faith with your children. That’s why we’re here to help! Dr. Bill Maier, our own psychologist and family expert on the KSBJ Morning Show, has put together a “Faith and Family” guide with ways parents can communicate spiritual truths to their children. Download your free copy below.

Listen All Week Long for More Helpful Tips

One of the best ways for parents to guide their children into spiritual maturity is by helping them to make wise decisions about what they allow into their head and heart. So tune in all this week to hear artists from our sister station, NGEN radio, as they share how God uses their music to communicate living out your faith to the next generation. Some of these artists can also share their faith directly with your kids at NGEN’s FREE concert series BOOMIN at Discovery Green on July 22nd and July 29th. It’s fun for the whole family! KSBJ Say The Pledge Veteran Salute

This week, KSBJ On the Street will be joining some of our Houston area veterans as they lead us in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Choose a track below to hear their unwavering love for America and stories about serving our country.

Star of Hope Mission Toiletry Drive

Star of Hope Mission Summer Toiletry Drive: May 27th - June 10th

You can do something to help take care of Houston’s homeless this summer by donating toiletries to the Star of Hope Mission. In the summer, when the homeless population increases and Star of Hope needs the most help, support decreases because folks are in vacation mode – not thinking of the homeless. Homelessness is not seasonal. The Star of Hope needs help all year round and has a constant need for toiletries. This summer Star of Hope is again expecting a record number of homeless men, women and children to be sleeping on their floors waiting for a room in a shelter already at full capacity. Your donation of toiletry items this June is a small way to make a BIG difference in a life.

Donated items can be individual or packaged in a quart size zip lock bag. Most needed includes:

  • Travel Size Deodorant for Men and Women
  • Travel size Bar Soap
  • Comb / Brush
  • Tooth brush and Tooth Paste
  • Razors
  • Shaving Cream
  • Baby Powder

Star of Hope donation bins will be in the six area LifeWay Book Stores, two of The Star of Hope and KSBJ on the Street locations:

  1. Fondren Square II Center, 7539 Southwest Freeway, 77074
  2. Willowbrook Court - 17776 Tomball Parkway, 77064
  3. Deerbrook Marketplace - 20426 US Highway 59 North, 77338
  4. Baybrook Village - 1513 West Bay Area Boulevard, 77598
  5. Price Plaza - 20230 Katy Freeway, 77449
  6. Portofino Power Center - 19075 IH 45 South, 77385

  1. Donation and Distribution Center - 2320 Lamar location
  2. Transitional Living Center - 6801 Ardmore location

Find Me Around Town

Find Me Around Town

You’ve played Where’s Waldo; now the question is where are Johnny B and Reyna Reyna from KSBJ On the Street?

Every day this week, they’ll be giving you clues as to where they’ll be in Houston and the surrounding area. And each day, they’ll show up to the location with prizes, games and fun.

Win passes to the Health Museum, Children’s Museum and Houston Zoo; a week-long YMCA membership; tickets to Third Day and Friends on June 7th, and more!

Here’s How it Works
Just keep listening throughout the day for Johnny B and Reyna Reyna to give you clues as to where they are located around the city. Then come out to where they are to say “hi.” We’d love to meet you!

You can also follow along with the clues on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

We’ll be all over Houston and coming to a place near you so be sure to find us around town!

Mother’s Day

So give your father and mother joy! May she who gave you birth be happy. –Proverbs 23:25

Moms are a priceless gift. We love them dearly and thank God for them. This Mother’s Day, consider KSBJ your big Mother’s Day card for your Mom. Give her a shout out to tell the world why she’s so important to you!

Take time to celebrate Moms. Share a story. Tell a tale. Do a “Mom-ism” or a lesson you learned from her. You can also call in and complete the sentence, “my mom is special because…,” to share on the air why your mom means so much to you! The number to dial is (832) 644-KSBJ or (832) 644-5725.

Thanks for celebrating Mom with us!

Sharathon 2014

Do Something - Sharathon 2014

David & Goliath – First Samuel 17 – You know the story. A small shepherd boy faces a giant nobody else would fight. David defeats Goliath, not with a sword in his hand, but with a sling and a stone.

This giant had been tormenting the Israelites for 40 days. Every day, the Israelites wondered who would fight for them, but nobody (even Saul, their King) would volunteer. But David, the shepherd boy, was willing to stand up and DO SOMETHING.

There are giants tormenting us every day – sickness, despair, unemployment, broken relationships, infidelity, and unforgiveness!

If you’re facing a Giant – you’re not alone. Thousands of us every day feel like we’re going up against insurmountable odds. The good news is that, like David, we’ve got a sling and a stone, and a God who will fight the battle for us.

Think of this radio station as your sling and think of the music, and the prayers, and the scripture verses found on KSBJ as the stones that equip you with the mighty weapon you need to fight YOUR GIANT.

There’s an interesting thing in the story of David and Goliath. To anybody looking on, you would have thought David was the underdog. But, if you know the story, God was on David’s side, and the Giant was defeated. Like David, all you need is to DO SOMETHING.

He Is Risen

He Is Risen

The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.” Luke 24:5-7

Easter is a time for us to be reminded what “He Is Risen” means. If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead—it’s game over for Christianity, (the Apostle Paul actually says in that case, our faith is “worthless”—1 Cor 15:17) –BUT if it’s true—it means that it’s game-on for a new life, that God hears your prayers, that you can be forgiven, that you can never out-sin God’s forgiveness, it means you can break a habit, you can have a clear conscience and freedom. It means God loves you, and is offering you a new life! Christ overcame death on the cross for your sins and through Him you can experience God’s love, forgiveness, and plan for your life.

If you’ve seen our He Is Risen billboards and you want to know more about the cross, visit: http://www.eastercross.org/. You can pick up an Easter Cross for your yard at the KSBJ On the Street events below:

Also, text the word KSBJEASTER to 51555 to follow along with us each day as we remember the events of Holy Week. Be sure and check out the great timeline below if you would like more information!

Make a Difference

The clock is ticking down to the end of the year, but you can still make a difference in 2013!

Your gift will help keep the songs you love playing on KSBJ and NGEN, touch even more people with God’s love online and continue outreach that benefits our entire community.

The goal is to transform our city one life, one prayer at a time—and because we’re listener supported, we can’t do it without you.

Thanks for responding before midnight December 31st!

Share God’s Love

Read how YOU are transforming lives in our city!

On that first Christmas more than 2,000 years ago, God gave all of us a life-transforming Christmas gift—His Son, Jesus Christ.

Today, with your support for KSBJ and NGEN, you can help share Jesus with more than 700,000 people through the holiday season and beyond!

Your gift will bless someone like Nicole . . .

Not long ago, Nicole wrote to tell us how her life fell apart after her parents’ divorce. She shared about the abusive relationship that trapped her, and then she talked about her pregnancy at age 16. “I was told that my baby would be better off adopted and that I could never be a good mom,” she said. “These words played in my head over and over.”

Nicole discovered KSBJ soon after her daughter’s birth. In the years that followed, it remained her only real link to God. Eventually, Nicole developed the strength to leave that harmful relationship, and she began building a new life.

As part of her new life, Nicole decided to pursue a career in nursing:

“I was accepted into nursing school. The first few weeks, I just knew I wouldn’t make it. [Then] the song “Strong Enough” by Matthew West came on KSBJ, and I cried all the way home. I knew this was God telling me that I could do it and that He was with me.”

“Every time I had a bad day or felt overwhelmed, that song just happened to play. Yesterday after I finished my last nursing exam and became a graduate nurse, I got into my car and “Strong Enough” was playing. I knew that was my heavenly Father’s sign to me. I am thankful to KSBJ for speaking God’s Word every day!

KSBJ and NGEN are listener supported, so your tax-deductible, year-end gift today will have a direct impact on the ministry right now and on our 2014 planning. Will you give the gift of God’s love to more people like Nicole?

Pray for the Philippines

Pray for the Philippines

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Cor 1:3-4

KSBJ family, in 2 Cor 1:3-4, God promises comfort for us so that we can comfort others, and at this time, collective prayers for the families affected by the tragedy in the Philippines is of most importance. Please also pray for our military troops who have been deployed, the first responders currently on the ground and emergency response organizations who are mobilizing recovery and first aid efforts.

How you can Help?

1) Prayer

2) Prayerfully consider donating to an organization who is mobilizing emergency aid

ECFA certified Response Organizations:

World Vision is raising funds and launching an emergency response to help survivors of Typhoon Haiyan—possibly the strongest storm in recorded history—after it slammed the Philippines. An estimated 4 million people are affected. World Vision is rushing to meet the most urgent needs of food, clean water, and emergency shelter for 400,000 people.

Compassion has created the Disaster Relief and Stability Fund to support the relief efforts in the Philippines. This fund will provide relief, recovery, and rehabilitation that is vital to restore families affected by this massive storm.

Samaritan’s Purse supports local ministry partners in the region as they provide physical help to suffering people in Jesus’ Name. We are currently bringing desperately needed relief and comfort to families affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan through Samaritan’s Purse Philippines Emergency Relief.

Convoy of Hope‘s Global Disaster Response Team has shipping containers full of food and supplies on the way to the Philippines. The organization is preparing more supplies to be sent like canned goods, hygiene kits and water filtration units. You can visit Convoy of Hope’s website to donate funds to their efforts or call 1-417-823-8998.

My Hope America

My Hope America

The best thing you can ever do for somebody, is to tell them about Jesus. And Billy Graham’s been doing that his whole life. He’s 95 now, and he has one more message that he wants to share with all of us, on November 9th during the television special airing on KPRC Channel 2 at 6:30PM.

And if Saturday doesn’t work for you, you can listen to Billy Graham right here on KSBJ during Sunday Night Live at 7PM on Sunday, November 10th! Sunday Night Live will also feature guests that evening to discuss the salvation message of My Hope America.

KSBJ wants to encourage you to share the hope of Jesus with your friends and neighbors by inviting them to watch or listen to Billy Graham with YOU! Whether you invite them to a meal or dessert at your home or meet up at church or your favorite hang out, this program is a simple way to connect with others and bring light to a world bombarded with negativity. The video below is a great sneak peak of this weekend’s program. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

  • Thursday- Pay for the order of the person behind you in the drive-thru or at the store
  • Friday- Donate clothing, food, books or other items to a community center, library or food pantry in your neighborhood

Back to School Prayers

Back to School Prayers

We have finished Operation Backpack, where we helped meet the needs of about 40,000 children in our area! Together, we equipped them with the physical needs for going back to school, now it’s time to help equip them with the spiritual needs. So, here at KSBJ “We’ve Got Your Back” with back-to-school prayers.

Whether they are starting school for the first time this year, or about to start college, we want the best for our children. Not only do we want to pray for students, but we want to cover parents and teachers in prayer as well during the start of this school year.

KSBJ wants to take time to cover the many areas that need prayer for going back to school and prepare students with the best way we know how – prayer.

If you would like to share with us the name of a school, administrator, bus driver, teacher, or student, join us on our Facebook page so that we can all pray for one another! If you want to be really creative, you can even post a picture to our Facebook page like this:

“13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” – Mark 10:13 - 16

    Operation Backpack

Make 1, Take 1, Summer of Fun!

Summer is not over yet, so there’s still time to take part in blessing another child for the new school year. As you gather school supplies for your child…MAKE up some extras for a child in need and TAKE it to a drop off location for Operation Backpack, sponsored by ABC 13!

Any school supplies will help – it could be a pack of pencils all the way up to a fully stocked backpack! You can even personalize your donation by writing a Bible verse or encouraging note to the child.

Drop off locations include: Houston area YMCA’s, HEB & Shoe Carnival locations, as well as numerous other businesses and churches. Find the closest location to you by clicking here! Your donations can be taken now through August 11th.

Help us meet our goal of 55,000 brand new backpacks and school supplies to benefit children in our community. Your investment provides these children the opportunity to start school with the resources to be successful!

During Operation Backpack, KSBJ on the Street will be out and about at different collection sites. So if you’re in the area come by and say hi and be a part of this opportunity to impact lives!

    • August 9th – ABC 13 KTRK TV Studios w/ the Morning Show from 6 – 10a

    Pray for Oklahoma

At KSBJ, we’re praying for everyone that has been impacted by the tornadoes in Oklahoma. We know that God listens to those who cry out to Him, and we believe that prayer gives hope!

    How should I pray?

    • For those who lost loved ones – that they don’t also lose hope (Hebrews 6:19)

    • For local churches who are reaching out to their immediate community (Matthew 25:34-36)

    • For those who don’t know Christ to make Him Lord and Savior of their lives in the midst of tragedy (Romans 10:13)

    • For local believers to cling to Christ in the midst of uncertainty – that He would be glorified and their faith would be strengthened (James 1:2-4)

    • For God to be glorified in this situation and for His strength and power to be displayed - that when temporary things are shaken, eternal things would be left standing (Hebrews 12:28-29, Exodus 9:13-16, Psalm 46:10)

    • To thank God in advance for accomplishing His purposes through times of suffering in our lives (Romans 8:28, Romans 8:18)

    How can I help?

    Easter in an Eggshell

    Easter in an Eggshell

Let’s face it. Easter is about breakage. It starts with a broken world with broken people. Into it came a man, Jesus, and this world ultimately broke Him too.

But He didn’t stay that way. He overcame death, the ultimate broken condition, and because of that, He shows us the way to overcome everything in life that would want to break us. So, allow us to “break open,” the truth about Jesus and Easter. Listen this week for Author and Speaker Max Lucado, as he gives us insights into Easter. And always remember that prayer, thankfulness, and the ultimate sacrifice through Jesus is much sweeter than any basket of chocolate eggs!

Also, text the word EASTER to 51555 to follow along with us each day as we remember the events of Holy Week. Be sure and check out the great timeline below if you would like more information!

    Refresh & Recharge

    Refresh & Recharge

There are two words that usually cause a reaction: Swim. Suit.

As that season approaches, we know you’re busy trying to reconnect with those new year resolutions. Retrying an old diet. Reestablishing exercise routines. Reclaiming cluttered spaces…and the list goes on! So, we are helping to remind you that sometimes you have to stop and take a minute to refresh & recharge!

Join us as we go into spring reinvigorated with some great tips from Lysa TerKeurst, President of Proverbs 31 Ministries. Listen all day long for ways to be renewed spiritually, mentally, physicially, and in your relationships. Also, we’ll reward you with some great retreat-type getaways!

    Love That Sticks

All month long we’re talking about unconditional love. God’s love is unconditional and nothing can separate us from His love – now that’s the kind of LOVE THAT STICKS! He loves us so much that He sent his son to die for us – so let’s share this good news with our community. 1 John 4:9-11 “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” Help us blanket the City of Houston with Love That Sticks!

    Here’s what you do:

Grab a pen and sticky note, write a positive message on it, and put it in places for people to find! Make sure to write “Love That Sticks” and ksbj.org on it to point people back to our station and learn more about God’s real love! Some ideas of things to write:

    • “You are beautiful”
    • “God loves you”
    • Bible verse like “John 3:16”

    Places you could leave them:

    • on a co-workers desk
    • at the gym
    • on the bathroom mirror in the grocery store

Receive special “Love That Sticks” notes just for you:

Sign-up to receive our special love notes by texting LOVENOTE to 51555. You’ll be reminded all month long of God’s love for you and the love we should have for one another.

Download our “Love That Sticks” printables:

You can also click to download our Love That Sticks printables! Hang one up as a reminder and of how much God loves you and use the other to get ideas for sharing God’s Love That Sticks with others.

Love That Sticks notepads will also be available at KSBJ On The Street events to help you blanket the city with God’s love. See where we’ll be next. And, we want to hear from you! Share your Love That Sticks experience with us by calling and telling us if you posted a note or found a note around town. Take a picture of the notes you see and share them with us using #LoveThatSticks on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Plus, follow our board #LoveThatSticks on Pinterest, too!
