(Intern’s) Eye view

June 26th, 2009

Hi Listeners! I know that many of you reading this blog are reading because you are cannot hear us on the web. I want to give you an eye-witness account of what has been going on the past few minutes!

I glanced up from my “intern nook” to see flashes of organge dart across the room as Susan O’donnell and Jen Driscoll tried to keep up with the flow of phone calls that flooded phone central as listeners put forth an effort to catapult the totals past that $1 million mark.

Joey K, clad in his purple-ish blue polo shirt manned the programming desk. Jon  Hull and Liz Jordan stood by to take over for their shift. The excitement was palatable.

But excitement won’t carry the numbers across the mark. No, the room was immersed in prayer as prayer volunteers invaded the quarters.

Volunteers stood at their posts of 40 phones, itching to take the next pledge that would hopefully propel the total forward. Some volunteers earnestly eyed the multi-colored pom-poms that were placed at each table in the hopes of being able to wave it in air, signaling a gift of $5000 or more.

” I think we can raise $22,000 in two songs,” Jon Hull said. “We just need 22 people to give $1,000.”

Song one played and KSBJ heard from four people who decided to give a $1,000 – $88 a month.

Five more $1000 givers. Tim McDermott gave some encouraging words and song two was started. The song was “How Great is Our God” by Chris Tomlin.

“It’s certainly not over,” Jon Hull said. “I think we are about to see the heavens break loose.”

I turned around to see Liz Jordan’s lips form a perfect “O” on her face as she stared at the computer screen in astonishment.

We made it. Twenty-nine listeners decided to give $1,000, bringing the total to $1,010, 913!!!!!

Hitting another goal…

June 26th, 2009

Hello!

So here I am cozied up in the little “intern” nook with Meagan (the other intern), Richard (Special Events) and Kent Matthews… We’re just chatting. As we are chatting, I hear Susan O’donnell proclaim that we are a mere $28,000 from a $1,000,000! WHOA! So cool!

My First Sharathon

June 26th, 2009

Well, it’s my first sharathon experience and I am having the time of my life! Experiencing the inner workings of KSBJ has opened up a completely new perspective of Sharathon. The volunteers are great and so happy to help! I have gotten to play a part in each of the jobs that go into making Sharathon happen. The action happening in phone central and on the air is quite addicting! Plus, I am now wearing my new shirt from KSBJ wear and it rocks.

Midday on Day Three

June 26th, 2009

Alright, y’all (I’m whipping out my Texas accent, which means I am super excited)! It’s 12 p.m. on day three! WOO HOO!

Many would think that Phone Central would be quieting because of the goals were met, but the phone lines are still ringing! I love the shrill sound of the phone, signaling another listener saying, “I want to show the POWER OF ONE.”

Listening to the phone calls flood in encourages me in so many ways.  I know that the callers are people who have been effected by KSBJ. I know that the listeners believe in the ministry of this station so much that they are driven to pick up the phone to lend a helping hand – much like a family. My being able to experience Sharathon from a staff perspective made me realize that your support is as much of a ministry to me as it is to the thousands of listeners!

So … keep calling in and keep checking back for more updates!

WOW!

June 26th, 2009

Hi everyone! This is Mandi – one of the interns. I am just so excited because of what I am witnessing – on some level words cannot even express my level of excitement, but I will try! :)

Well, it’s day three of Sharathon, and God is blowing our goals to pieces! Each goal we’ve made, God has turned around and said, “Hey… Guess what! I am MORE!”

So, to play a little catch-up:

My head smashed into my pillow at about 11 p.m. last night. The last total I had heard was that the “I AM more” category was up at about $99,000! I was so thrilled to see God working that my eyes began to brim with tears.

I was so pumped about the whole Sharathon event that I even dreamt of what would come the next day! My alarm clock went off this morning at about 8 a.m, which means the first thing I heard were the 8 a.m. totals. The on-air DJ quickly relayed to my listening ears that the “I AM More” totals equaled close to $400,000! WOW!

God is big! You know what, though? My God is even bigger! Case in point, the 11:30 a.m. total for the “I AM More” category is $701, 735!

Keeping checking back as we will be updating again soon! Thanks for your support and please keep praying!

Help us show Houston “The Power of ONE!”

Volunteers – Newbies & Pros…

June 26th, 2009

I was just in phone central talking to some of our volunteers and was so blessed by them.  I spoke to some who were new to Sharathon this year who really enjoyed their experience and want to come back; others I spoke to (several in fact)  have been volunteering for years – 5, 12, 17, etc… I can’t even tell you the number of times that I’ve heard volunteers describe Sharathon as “one big family reunion.”

It’s so incredible how people can come from various backgrounds and denominations with different talents and skill sets and be brought together under the unity of the cross.  I can’t help but think that God is pleased when He sees His children serving and working together.

To all our volunteers who have helped during Sharathon, thank you!  We couldn’t have done this without you and we are so blessed to have you with us.

Jen Marshall :)

Absolutely Astonishing!

June 25th, 2009

Praise God for EXCEEDING KSBJ’s Sharathon goals!  I’m so amazed…I shouldn’t be, but I am!!!  And it’s only Day 2!!!!  At 11:58AM God pulled in $328,221  for our monthly operations goal (we’d been asking for $328,000).  Then at 5:58PM He brought in $855,083 for our Impact Initiatives goal (we’d been believing Him for $858,000).  WOW!!!  A to the men!  Still trying to figure out the significance of the :58…lemme know if you’ve got any ideas!

Now we’ve moved into Phase 2 of Sharathon – it’s called the “God is saying I AM more” campaign.  God says in Exodus 3:14, “I AM WHO I AM.”  What does that mean to you?  And how has God done more in your life?  Fill a sista in!!!  And if you feel led to give, call us at 1-800-893-5725 (KSBJ)!!!!

XOXO,

Jen Driskill

All I can say is WOW!

June 25th, 2009

So we’re minutes away from reaching out goals.  And it’s almost 6 on Thursday.

I don’t pretend to begin to understand what God is doing, but I am most definitely excited about it!
