It’s felt like August lately and while it might be a little more comfortable over the weekend, we have more high temps on the way next week, so I wanted to share a few ideas with you for keeping cool.

First of all, if you’re a Reliant customer and this weather has made it tough to pay your high electric bill, they have some programs that might help. You can follow that link or call 211 and explain your situation so they can point you in the right direction.

Actually, 211 is a great resource for a lot of things! If you call or go to 211Texas.org, you can use your zip code to find a cooling center that’s near you. Most of these spaces will be available during the hottest parts of the day and are public buildings like libraries and community centers. ABC13 also shared a good list of cooling centers in Harris County.

In our house, we are loaded up with the bulk cheap-o popsicles and ice cream. I’m trying to keep the kids (and myself!) hydrated, which feels like a full-time job right now!

If you can never quite remember which direction your fan needs to be set to this time of the year (I never can!), it’s counter-clockwise.

I hope this helps! -Morgan
